What happens when someone walks into a room feeling nervous and walks out standing taller?
That is the moment I love.
It might be a child finding her voice. A woman setting a clear boundary. A team laughing together after completing a challenge. A young person realising that confidence is not something only other people have.
Confidence can be built.
Resilience can be practised.
Strength can grow in surprising ways.
That is why I bring dance, martial arts, self-defence and motivational speaking together through The Dancing Fighter. These experiences stay with people long after the music stops or the workshop ends.
Nothing is impossible! ✨️
Confidence is more than feeling brave
People often think confidence means being the loudest person in the room.
It does not.
Confidence can be quiet. It can look like trying again. Asking for help. Saying no. Making eye contact. Taking part when you would rather hide at the back.
I have seen confidence grow in tiny steps.
A child joins a warm-up.
A teenager speaks clearly.
A woman changes her posture.
A team starts listening to one another.
These small moments matter. They build a stronger belief in what is possible.
After teaching for more than 20 years, seeing life-changing results never gets boring. I love empowering people. I love seeing someone discover that they are more capable than they first believed.
The aim is not to make everyone the same. It is to help each person find their own strength.
How dance helps people feel stronger
Dance is joyful. It is creative. It brings people together.
But it also teaches powerful life skills.
When people learn a routine, they practise focus and memory. When they move with a partner, they practise awareness and communication. When they perform in front of others, they learn that being seen can feel exciting rather than frightening.
And when someone misses a step?
We smile. We reset. We keep moving.
That is resilience.
Dance helps children and adults develop:
- Balance and coordination.
- Body awareness.
- Concentration.
- Creativity.
- Communication.
- Teamwork.
- A positive relationship with movement.
- The confidence to try something new.
There is no requirement to be a “natural” dancer. You do not need perfect rhythm. You do not need years of experience.
You simply need to begin.
I can adapt movement for different ages, abilities and needs. A session might include energetic choreography, simple rhythm work, seated movement or a team routine. Every person should have a way to join in.
Every movement counts.

How self-defence builds calm confidence
Self-defence is not about encouraging people to fight.
It is about helping people feel prepared.
The right training can help participants understand personal space, body language, boundaries and awareness. It can give them practical options if a situation feels uncomfortable or unsafe.
For children, that may include:
- Using a strong voice.
- Saying “no” clearly.
- Understanding personal space.
- Moving away from danger.
- Identifying trusted adults.
- Asking for help.
- Recognising when something does not feel right.
For women, sessions can explore awareness, boundary-setting, confident posture, communication and practical responses to challenging situations.
The message is simple.
Your voice matters.
Your boundaries matter.
Your safety matters.
As a provider of self defence instruction for women in West Yorkshire, I create supportive sessions that are practical, encouraging and suitable for the people in the room. A women-only group may need a different approach from a school class. A charity supporting vulnerable service users may need a gentle and trauma-aware session.
There is no one-size-fits-all solution.
People come first.
Why dance and self-defence work so well together
At first glance, dance and self-defence may seem worlds apart.
One uses music and expression. The other focuses on awareness and safety.
But they share many foundations:
- Focus.
- Balance.
- Timing.
- Body control.
- Repetition.
- Discipline.
- Adaptability.
- Confidence under pressure.
- The ability to recover after a mistake.
Dance brings flow.
Martial arts bring structure.
Together, they help people become more aware of how they move, communicate and respond.
A dance exercise might encourage someone to take up space. A self-defence drill might help them understand distance. A partner activity might improve trust. A team challenge might show how much can be achieved when everyone communicates.
This is confidence from the inside out.
It is also why I love creating sessions that combine movement with motivational messages. People are not just hearing that they are strong. They are experiencing strength for themselves.
Expert instruction with a personal story
My journey started with dance when I was five years old.
Over the years, I have competed internationally in Irish dance and martial arts. I have won multiple World, European and British titles. My martial arts background includes Filipino Martial Arts, kickboxing, Muay Thai, Kempo Ju Jitsu and more.
I am proud to be a Martial Arts coach West Yorkshire schools, companies and community organisations can work with.
I am also proud to be a World Champion West Yorkshire martial artist and performer. But the medals are not the most important part of my work.
The real reward is seeing someone else grow.
A child who once stood silently begins to speak.
A woman who doubted herself starts taking up space.
A team that struggled to communicate begins to support one another.
That is success.
My experience helps me teach the technical side safely and clearly. My experience as a performer helps me make sessions engaging. My experience as a motivational speaker helps me connect the activity to everyday life.
The result is learning that people remember.
Local programmes across West Yorkshire
I am passionate about working with local organisations because every community has different strengths and needs.
I have worked with girls-only schools, including Batley Girls High, helping pupils see that they can achieve more than they might imagine. I have delivered sessions for children at Berry Brow Infant and Junior School. I also work with groups in Huddersfield and across the wider West Yorkshire area.
Local schools, community groups and charities can use dance and self-defence sessions to support:
- Confidence and wellbeing.
- Positive behaviour.
- Anti-bullying work.
- Personal safety.
- Teamwork and communication.
- Resilience after difficult experiences.
- Healthy self-expression.
- Inclusion and belonging.
Community work can include women’s self-defence, women’s kickboxing, dance sessions, ceilis, seated activities and children’s holiday clubs.

Companies can benefit too.
Corporate team building does not have to mean sitting around a table discussing communication. Sometimes the best learning happens when people move, laugh and solve a challenge together.
My corporate sessions can help teams:
- Build trust.
- Improve communication.
- De-stress.
- Develop mutual respect.
- Explore conflict management.
- Step outside familiar routines.
- Discover new strengths.
A shared experience can change the way people see one another.
That change can continue back in the workplace.

Strong body. Brave heart. Positive change.
You do not need to wait until everyone feels ready.
You do not need to wait for the perfect time.
Confidence often comes after the first step, not before it.
So take the first step.
If you are a school in Huddersfield, a charity in Batley, a community group in Berry Brow or a company anywhere across West Yorkshire, I would love to hear from you.
Tell me about your organisation.
Tell me who you want to empower.
Tell me what you would like people to feel, learn and take away.
Together, we can create a session that is practical, uplifting and memorable.
I love empowering people. I love seeing resilience grow. I love watching one person’s confidence inspire another.
The journey continues.
Strong body.
Brave heart.
